Problem: An old, inefficient steam boiler heating system supplying space-heat to multiple buildings was plagued with numerous problems, including deteriorating supply and condensate return lines, and steam heaters that were inefficient and needing repairs. Building temperatures were uneven, and buildings used for welding and heat-treating had negative air pressure problems. The indoor air quality and working conditions were poor. Solution: Management made the decision to outsource the energy and air quality problems. Cenergy Services designed, installed and commissioned a new space heating and ventilation system to reduce energy usage by 51%, and other operating costs (maintenance, repairs, chemicals, water and boiler supervision) by 11%. With the Cenergy Services “commissioning” (measurement and follow through), working conditions have improved and expectations have been met.
