Ohio Distribution Center
340,000 sq. ft.
Problem: New, 4 year old retail chain distribution center had high operating costs. The large, very noisy, inefficient indirect gas-fired air turnover heating system was designed to run continuously. Employees also complained of cold dock areas and an overheated upper mezzanine.
Solution: A new high efficiency, direct gas-fired heating system was designed and installed. It reduced gas usage by 41%. The electrical load was reduced from 100 horsepower on a continuous basis to only 37.5 horsepower on an intermittent basis. The much quieter system made employees more productive because it also solved the cold dock door and hot mezzanine problems. Payback on the new heating system was less than two years.
